From crystal growth and slicing in its early stage to the sophisti-cated wafer process, semiconductor manufacturing demands large amount of pure water for photo-masking, circuit-etching and CMP grinding. As the demand for precision increases, integrated circuits have advanced into nano domain, and as a result, the required purity of treatment water is escalating. Currently, the primary requirements for the quality of pure water for a 12” wafer plant are as follows:
  Resistivity           >18.2MΩ-cm
  Total Organic Carbon (TOC)<0.5ppb
  Silicon Dioxide    >0.1ppb
  Metal                  <20ppt
  Boron                 <50ppt
  Particles             >0.05um
                            <0.2pcs/c.c.
The design of a pure water system shall be taken into consideration of not only the quality, stability for extended operation and simplicity of operation, but also savings on electricity and water consump-tions.

Large-scale petrochemical and power plants need make-up water treatment facility for their chemical processes and high-pressure boilers, which consume large quantity of higher-quality water and thus 2B3T+MB unit is generally used for water treatment. UPT built a modern large-scale pure water plant for the Formosa Plastics Group using German Bayer Lewatit VWS technology. The product water quality, regeneration performance and overall operation of the plant have all reached the international standards

Semiconductor-grade Chemical Plants

Ultrapure water that meets the process specification is crucial to the mixing of chemical solutions and the cleaning process in semiconductor-grade chemical plants. Therefore, pure water production and treatment units are considered Critical Equipment in the production flow of such plants.
For the purpose of quality assurance, pure water is classified into four grades, i.e. E1, E2, E3 andE4, according to ASTM standards.
